I create a mind map for every book and academic paper I read. But I will say this about taking notes in prose: They can be great if done using active recall and as if you were teaching someone. There's something powerful about having to explain things using prose.
Only when I started drawing mind maps did studying become easily manageable. I haven't tried it with language learning, yet. Thanks for the inspiring post!
